Reading at Kids Couintry Barn

WELCOME TO KIDS COUNTRY BARN!

Our mission is to utilize our unique outdoor spaces in conjunction with Montessori and Anti-Racist curriculums to create a nature-rich, inclusive learning environment that promotes the development of the whole child so that all of our students enter elementary school thriving. We believe that all children are curious, capable, and always want to succeed.

Research shows that children learn through play and that nature offers an optimal environment for creative growth, solving problems, and developing a more profound sense of self-worth. In addition, when children have a supportive learning community, the time to grow with their peers, and the physical space to explore, their academic, social, emotional, and cognitive skills flourish. Our vision is that the harmonious combination of our indoor and outdoor learning spaces, structured by Montessori and Anti-Racist curriculums, will allow children to become more independent, confident, mindful, and instill a lifelong love of learning about the world around them.

The Kids Country Barn program is for children ages 4-5 and is located on Hazel Creek Montessori’s 10-acre property on beautiful Bainbridge Island, Washington. The forest to farm setting provides a rich nature-based learning environment for students with unique learning environments indoors and in nature. Kids Country Barn utilizes these spaces, with a Montessori classroom inside our expansive barn, eating areas both inside and out, a covered sports arena, fenced pastures, a forest campground, and a separate building that houses our beautiful swimming pool. Children explore creek-carved trails and rolling green hills, catching tadpoles and learning about the life cycles of frogs. Their love for learning, self-confidence, and imagination flourish while learning how to care for farm animals and the vegetable garden throughout the year. The integration of our natural spaces into Montessori and Anti-Racist curriculums sets the program apart by allowing learning to become concrete, relevant, and responsive to children’s interests and everyday lives.
